But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. – Matthew 6:33
In our busy lives, filled with endless notifications, deadlines, and responsibilities, it’s easy to relegate God to our leftover time. We intend to pray, read Scripture, or worship—after we finish everything else. But the truth is, those moments rarely materialize. Jesus understood this human tendency when He instructed us to seek first God’s kingdom. He knew that unless we deliberately place God at the forefront of our lives, other priorities will always crowd Him out. This isn’t about guilt or obligation; it’s about recognizing that our relationship with God requires intentional investment. Prioritizing God doesn’t necessarily mean spending hours in prayer each day. It means making conscious decisions to put Him first—perhaps waking up fifteen minutes earlier for quiet reflection, turning off the radio during your commute to pray, or choosing worship over worry when challenges arise. When we make these small but significant choices, we create space for God to work in our lives in powerful ways.
Reflection
What practical step could you take this week to elevate God from your ‘spare time’ to your priority time?
Quote You will never get to know God in your spare time.
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for trying to fit You into my leftover moments. Help me reorganize my priorities so that You are first, not last. Show me practical ways to seek Your kingdom above everything else. Amen.
