“I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter, my great army, which I sent among you.” – Joel 2:25
Perhaps the most remarkable promise God offers to those who return to Him is restoration. Through Joel, God declares, “I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten.” This isn’t just about forgiveness – it’s about recovery of what was lost during our time away from Him. Sin always takes more than it gives. It promises freedom but delivers bondage. It offers pleasure but leaves pain. It suggests fulfillment but creates emptiness. The time, relationships, opportunities, and peace that sin destroys often seem permanently lost to us. But God specializes in restoration. When we return to what we left – our relationship with Him – He begins the miraculous process of restoring what was lost. This doesn’t mean the past is erased as if it never happened. Rather, God redeems it, bringing beauty from ashes and strength from weakness. This restoration might look different for each person. For some, it’s the rebuilding of broken relationships. For others, it’s the recovery of wasted time through new opportunities. For many, it’s the transformation of painful experiences into platforms for ministry and impact. God doesn’t just forgive our sin; He restores everything that sin destroys. No matter how much the locusts of sin have consumed in your life, return to God today and watch Him begin His work of restoration.

What specific losses in your life do you need God to restore? How might God be able to redeem those painful experiences or wasted years for His purposes and your good?

Prayer
God of restoration, I bring before You the areas of my life that feel devastated and beyond repair. Thank You for Your promise to restore what was lost. As I return to You with my whole heart, I trust You to redeem my past and transform my future. Help me to believe that nothing is beyond Your power to restore. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
