“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” – Proverbs 16:9
Most of us start our days with a plan. A to-do list, a schedule, a set of expectations for how things will go. And there is nothing wrong with that. Planning is wise. But here is something worth holding onto: God is not limited by your plan. In fact, He is already working within it, around it, and sometimes right through it. Proverbs 16:9 puts it plainly. We plan our course, but God directs our steps. That is not a warning against planning. It is an invitation to hold your plans loosely and stay alert to what God is doing in the middle of your ordinary day. That detour in your commute. That unexpected conversation at the coffee shop. That coworker who seemed off today. Those are not interruptions to your purpose. They might actually be your purpose for that moment. When you offer your day to God and ask Him how He wants to use you, you start to see people differently. You notice the thirsty ones. You become aware of the person right in front of you who is quietly searching for something more. You do not need a special assignment or a mission trip to participate in what God is doing. He has already established your steps. Your job is to stay surrendered, stay aware, and trust that He is leading you exactly where He needs you to be.
