“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.” – James 1:2
Nobody signs up for the hard seasons. But they come anyway. Jesus did not promise us a trouble-free life. He promised us something better. He said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” That is not a consolation prize. That is a declaration of victory from someone who has already won. Some storms are corrections, calling us back to God. Others are something different entirely. They are not punishments. They are processes. They are building something in us that comfort never could. The greatest people of faith are not the ones who never struggled. They are the ones who stayed, even when life went a completely different direction than they expected. Job lost everything. And yet he declared that even so, he would trust God. That kind of faith does not come from easy circumstances. It comes from a deep, settled confidence in who God is, regardless of what life looks like. You may be in a hard season right now. You may be tired. But you are not alone. Jesus Himself is interceding for you at the right hand of the Father. Heaven is cheering you on. Do not quit.

Looking back at a difficult season in your life, can you identify something God was building in you that comfort alone never could have produced?

Father, when the hard seasons come, anchor me in Your character and not my circumstances. Remind me that You are with me, and that You are working even when I cannot see it. Amen.
