He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith. – Mark 6:5-6
It is easy to show up. We show up to church, we go through the motions, we say the right things. But somewhere along the way, familiarity can quietly replace expectation. We stop anticipating what God might do and start simply going through a routine. In Mark 6, Jesus returned to His hometown and was genuinely amazed, not by great miracles, but by a lack of faith. The people who had known Him the longest expected Him the least. That is a sobering thought. The danger is not always doubt from the outside. Sometimes it grows quietly from the inside, dressed up as comfort and routine. Faith is not a feeling or positive thinking. It is a confident trust in who God is and what He has said. When we reduce our relationship with God to habit alone, we shrink what we ask for and, in turn, what we receive. Here is the good news: God has not changed. His power has not faded. His desire to move in your life is just as real today as it has ever been. You are not too far gone, too familiar, or too routine for God to meet you right where you are. All it takes is a fresh expectation.
