“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.” – Psalm 42:11
There are moments when God feels far away. The circumstances are hard, the prayers feel like they are bouncing off the ceiling, and the last thing you feel like doing is worshipping. But that is often exactly when worship matters most. Psalm 42 captures this tension honestly. The writer is downcast, longing for God, and yet still choosing to put His hope in Him. That is worship in its rawest form. Not a performance. Not a feeling. A choice to turn your attention toward God even when everything in you wants to focus on the problem. Worship is not a warm-up to something else. It is the thing itself. It is an intentional act of drawing near to God, and when you draw near to Him, He draws near to you. If you cannot seem to find God in your current season, try worshipping Him. Sing. Pray with gratitude. Speak His goodness out loud. Shift your focus from what is wrong to who He is. You may be surprised how quickly the atmosphere around you begins to change.
Reflection
When life feels heavy, do you tend to pull away from worship or lean into it, and what does that pattern reveal about where you are placing your trust?
Quote
“Worship shifts the atmospheres and shifts our attention from our problems to His presence. If you can’t find God, worship Him and He will find you.”
Prayer
God, even when I do not feel close to You, I choose to worship You. Shift my focus from my problems to Your presence, and remind me that You are always near. You are worthy of my praise in every season.
