‘And you will seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart.’ – Jeremiah 29:13
Nobody wakes up one morning and decides to abandon their faith. It’s much more subtle than that. It starts with missing one Sunday because you’re tired. Then it becomes easier to skip prayer because you’re busy. Before you know it, weeks have passed without meaningful time with God, and you wonder why life feels so overwhelming. This gradual drift is one of the enemy’s most effective strategies because it doesn’t feel dramatic or alarming. It feels… normal. Comfortable, even. We convince ourselves that God understands our busy schedules, our need for rest, our other commitments. And while God is indeed understanding and gracious, He also knows that our souls need consistent connection with Him to thrive. The distractions of this world aren’t inherently evil, but they can become spiritual quicksand if we’re not careful. The good news is that recognizing the drift is the first step toward returning. God hasn’t moved – He’s been waiting patiently for us to notice how far we’ve wandered and to choose to come back home.
Reflection
What specific distractions or comforts in your life have gradually pulled you away from consistent time with God?
Quote
You don’t have to reject God to neglect him. It just happens slowly. It’s the busyness, it’s the comfort, it’s the distractions and the self reliance.
Prayer
Father, forgive me for the ways I’ve allowed the busyness and distractions of life to crowd You out. Help me to recognize when I’m drifting and give me the wisdom to prioritize our relationship above all else.
