“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.” – Romans 6:4
Grace transforms us is through a lifelong process called sanctification. While justification (our new position) happens in an instant, sanctification is the daily process of becoming more like Christ. This process isn’t about achieving perfection through our own efforts. It’s about cooperating with the Holy Spirit as He works within us, gradually conforming us to the image of Christ. And the beautiful thing is that this transformation happens by grace, not by our striving. Sanctification involves tension. There will be times when our old nature tries to reassert itself—when we respond in anger instead of love, or choose selfishness over sacrifice. In those moments, we have a choice: we can listen to the enemy who tries to convince us that we haven’t really changed, or we can trust in God’s transforming grace. The evidence of sanctification isn’t perfection; it’s our response when we fall short. Do we feel the tension? Do we desire to respond differently? That tension is a sign that God is at work in us, transforming us by His grace.
Reflection
When you fall short or make mistakes, do you tend to define yourself by those failures, or do you recognize them as moments for God’s transforming grace to work in your life?
Quote
The process of sanctification of a believer is the daily process of being transformed by grace.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, thank You for the ongoing work of transformation You’re doing in my life. Help me to cooperate with You in this process, not striving in my own strength but yielding to Your gentle guidance. When I fall short, remind me that transformation is a process and that Your grace is sufficient for me. Amen.
