“Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the LORD Almighty. – Zechariah 1:3

Have you ever been swimming at the beach and suddenly realized you’ve drifted far from your starting point? It happens so gradually that you don’t notice until you look up and see your beach towel as a tiny speck in the distance. Our relationship with God works the same way. Without intentional effort, we naturally drift from our connection with Him. This pattern appears throughout Scripture. God’s people experience seasons of closeness followed by periods of drifting away. Yet God’s response remains consistent: an invitation to return. The beautiful truth is that no matter how far we’ve drifted, God is always waiting with open arms, ready to welcome us back. The first step in returning is simply recognizing our drift. Have you felt distant from God lately? Has prayer become mechanical? Does reading Scripture feel like a chore rather than nourishment? These are signs of spiritual drift. The good news is that awareness is the beginning of return. God isn’t waiting to scold you—He’s waiting to restore you.

Reflection
In what areas of your spiritual life have you noticed drift happening, and what might be causing this gradual separation from God?

Quote
Just as we naturally drift away from our starting point at the beach, our relationship with God follows the same pattern without intentional connection.

Prayer
Father, thank You for Your constant invitation to return. Help me recognize when I’m drifting and give me the courage to swim back to You. I’m grateful that You’re always waiting, no matter how far I’ve gone. Amen.
